In December of 1960, the site that would later become the Kennewick Red Apple had its grand opening as Campbell C&H Markets". Its focus was Saving time, Saving money". Shortly after, Mayfair Markets, a grocery store chain originating in California, acquired the location, along with multiple stores in Washington. The district manager at the time, Tom Duzan, along with his wife Edwina, bought the store from Mayfair markets and opened it for business in 1984, newly christened as the Family Grocer". Finally settling on the name of the store as the Kennewick Red Apple Market", the store motto was coined as Big enough to get the job done, Small enough to care", placing focus for the independently owned store on friendly customer service and quick, one stop shopping. Kennewick Red Apple was purchased by the meat manager turned meat sales specialist, Mike Nellis, along with his wife Judi, in 2015. After owning the store for a little over 10 years, they sold the Red Apple to their son Jason Nellis, and his wife Olga, in 2026, who are the current owners to this day.
